History of Jodhpur
The Sun City – Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha, a ruler from Rathore clan. Jodhpur was established in the fifteenth century. This magical city is named after Rao Jodha. Earlier Jodhpur was known as Marwar. Rathores were originally from Kaunaj. Due to attacks by Afghans, they fled to Pali and established their kingdom here. They made Mandore their capital which is just 9 Kilometres from Jodhpur. Later they established Jodhpur as their secure capital. Jodhpur developed into a modern city under the reign of Maharaja Umaid Singh. After the independence, Jodhpur was included into the state Rajasthan and now it is the second largest city of Rajasthan.
